IPL 2 : CSK beat Deccan Chargers

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

It was expected to be a battle royal but fizzled out like a wet cracker, Chennai Super Kings storming to a 78-run victory over Deccan Chargers at the Buffalo Park here on Monday. The match bucked the trend of great contests that have gone down to the wire and left Mahendra Singh Dhoni a delighted man as his team picked up their third win on the trot and topped the league with nine points.

Winning the toss and opting to take first strike on a batting track in a small ground, Dhoni and his team piled up a massive 178 for three in 20 overs, the captain himself top-scoring with a half-century that was brilliantly paced. Dhoni’s 58 came off 37 balls (six fours and a six) and ensured that Matthew Hayden’s good work (43 off 26 balls, five fours, three sixes) was made capital of.

Dhoni promoted himself up the order to No. 3 and finally came to the party with a smart innings, first by playing himself in and then by opening out. Barely a match after he termed his own batting as pathetic, Dhoni was given the man of the match award for his crafty innings. His knock propelled Chennai Super Kings to a wonderful total.

Chennai Super Kings pitchforked themselves to the top with nine points from eight games while Deccan Chargers, who started off with four wins in a row but have now lost three successive matches, slipped to fourth place with eight points from seven games. Kings XI Punjab (eight points, seven matches) and Delhi Daredevils (eight points, six matches) are in second and third places ahead of Deccan Chargers.

The joke of 2009--Sachin at 26th position in ICC rankings

Saturday, January 17, 2009

The ICC ranking was eagerly awaited by the international cricket fraternity and the verdict is out at last; the new ranking assigns Sachin Tendulkar the twenty sixth place in the list of best batsmen that cricket has ever produced. No, it is not a printing error, you got it right; according to ICC ranking, two maestros in international cricket - Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara are not among the top twenty Test players. This unique ranking not only stunned the followers of cricket worldwide, it has been considered as a big joke by some of the prominent cricket personalities of the country.
When even Sir Don Bradman picked up Sachin as his torch bearer, then ICC’s decision to keep him out of top ten all-time-great list does not only look odd, it looks funny and it raises question about the logical basis of such estimation. The ex-skipper of India and the Vengsarkar voices his doubts about the authenticity of the method that ICC follows in doling out their ranks for the international cricket players. Chetan Chauhan, one time opener for India also voiced his shock and disagreement, “Anybody who scores 12,000 runs…and not having his name in the all-time great list will surprise not only me but everyone in the fraternity.”
So what has been ICC’s yardstick for preparing this controversial list? Consistency in career and the highest performances in the career of a cricketer have been two major criteria in ICC’s method of ranking. If consistency was a big factor for the selection, how can one down- rate Sachin who has over 12000 runs in test cricket and has a track record that spans over seventeen long years! And so far as the high points in the career of a test cricketer is concerned, Cricket360.com has big doubts whether ICC could differentiate between Sachin’s top performances and ordinary performances. Seems that ICC could not quite figure out the high points of the career of this player, who for the most part of his Test career stayed at the summit.
While ICC’s injustice to Sachin drew huge nationwide criticisms, The Indian cricket board decided to distance itself entirely from this cricket controversy. It maintained that since it is an ICC decision, the BCCI should not make any interference.
It does not matter, whether BCCI officially voices its displeasure over the issue, the rest of the nation seems to fully agree with Chetan Chauhan that “If Sir Don Bradman is number one, and then Sachin should have been number two.”

Dhoni & Co. proved Ponting wrong.

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Mr. Ponting needs to do changes in his book"Captains Diary", because of Team India. This is because when India won the ICC world twenty20 in 2007, Australia skipper wrote a comment in his book that the Dhoni and Co. team is specialist only for this version of game(i.e 20-20).They can not play well and succeed in ODI or test match.

In "Captain's Diary 2008", he also added that, the team which is best in ODI or tests need not be best in Twenty20 matches, those who perform ordinary in ODI's and tests are superpower teams for twenty20 version. Dhoni and Yuvraj are dangerous batsman in this version, because they play shots without the use of batting technique (LOL!!!).

He said that Team India won twenty20 by luck and not by their class.

However, Dhoni and Co. proved Ponting wrong after beating Australia badly 2-0 with series win after long 28 years and proving that the Twenty20 win was not won by luck.....It was team effort and team hard work!!!.
